U.S. Enters “Coal Cost Crossover” –Existing Coal is Increasingly More Expensive than Cleaner Alternatives

An analysis focusing on which coal plants could be replaced locally at a saving on the costs of clean energy undercutting coal costs shows that existing coal is increasingly more expensive than cleaner alternatives. Wind and solar power could replace nearly 3/4 of the U.S. coal fleet at an immediate savings to customers. This report is seen as starting longer conversation about the most cost-effective replacement for coal.
